John Stockman (custom)  > Electronics > Speakers
Just a few of the speaker projects I have completed, plus a few pics of motorcycles, cats, crossover schematics and other people's speakers.

John Stockman (custom) > It's been about a month since I last posted some pics...I've been enjoying my new subwoofer! It's KILLER! Practically stuns my "calibrated" cat! Anyway, here's a test fit of the Audax tweeter and Definitive woofer. The Jasper jig cuts a perfectly sized hole; so close that I don't need any sealing material or gasket. I'll use some of that black stuff that Parts Express gives you when you order woofers, just to make sure there are NO air leaks
John Stockman (custom) > Here's the XO's installed on the bottom of the box. I put the XO's in first, then cut some of the egg-crate foam to fit around them. I'll tease out some Acousta-Stuf (about 3 oz.) to fill the bottom and cover up the XO's.
John Stockman (custom) > XO's in, egg-crate foam on the bottom, back, and top. Teased-out Acousta-Stuf on the sides and in the bottom, covering the XO. The baffle has 3 coats of primer, sanded between each coat, then 3 coats of satin black, sanded between each coat. The final top-coat hasn't been applied yet...I used epoxy to attach the baffle to the box, so when the epoxy has cured, I can put on the final coat of paint. I used screws through the grill-guide holes to act as clamps to hold the baffle in place while the epoxy cures. When the female grill guides are in place they'll cover up the screws.
John Stockman (custom) > Another view of the baffle permanently attached to the cabinet with "West System" 205 epoxy. This stuff is incredibly strong! It's also sonically superior to other glues I've used, making for a more "dead" enclosure. Again, I have no scientific measurements to back this statement up, just the differences I've actually heard between cabinets put together with other types of glue. Zalytron has used the West System epoxy on their fantastic cabinets for many years. I've seen the enclosures they build, and they are some of the finest looking, best-built speaker cabinets in the world.
John Stockman (custom) > Now you can see the Acousta-Stuf, and there's still one more final top-coat that will be applied to the baffle.
John Stockman (custom) > There, final coat of satin black applied. It turned out really nice looking. All that's left is installing the drivers, and the female part of the grill guides in each corner.

John Stockman (custom) > Not bad for some old, beat up thrift-store cabinets! When I get the drivers installed I can get them down to the house and give 'em the old "smoke test"...final result photos will soon follow, along with a review of how they sound.
John Stockman (custom) > I thought I'd get these outside so you could see the finish on the baffle better. I coated the back-side of the baffle with some Cascade Audio VB-1 to reduce vibration. The "satin" black paint has a nice look to it, though the photo doesn't really show how smooth it is.
