John Stockman (custom) > My new project, from the guru of designers, Curt Campbell. He just finished his TM version of the TriTrix, which uses the venerable Dayton "silkie" shielded tweeter along with the Dayton 5.25" 4ohm treated-paper woofer (round frame). I had cut all the pieces for a .25 ft3 cabinet 2 years ago, but moving and getting off some pain medication put speaker building on the skids for a while. Curt designed this speaker to work in a .25 ft3 volume, so it was the perfect project for these enclosure pieces. I had everything on hand except the woofers. The cabinet uses 1" thick MDF all around with an internal shelf/window pane brace. The XO is pretty simple and the finished speakers were very well-reviewed at a recent DIY event in Iowa. Here is the rear baffle (left) and the front...on left, top recess is for the port, bottom hole for the terminal; mortises/through holes cut on the front baffle. I'll be installing threaded inserts for the drivers from behind (8-32 machine-thread) and some #6 flat-head wood screws for the port. The back of the woofer opening will have a 1/2" round-over so the driver can "breathe" better. I'll be adding more pics as the build comes together. If you need any info, I have the XO schematics and cabinet/port dimensions, or let me know, and I'll provide the link to Curt's web-site.
John Stockman (custom) > It's been about a month since I last posted some pics...I've been enjoying my new subwoofer! It's KILLER! Practically stuns my "calibrated" cat! Anyway, here's a test fit of the Audax tweeter and Definitive woofer. The Jasper jig cuts a perfectly sized hole; so close that I don't need any sealing material or gasket. I'll use some of that black stuff that Parts Express gives you when you order woofers, just to make sure there are NO air leaks
